Speech Therapy
The speeches last night were brilliant. The best, the ones you just have to watch, are:
Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, who looks like a great candidate for national office since he's funny, smart, loud, persuasive and a regular guy, gave a helluva speech, one that CNN graciously decided to actually air:
I also liked Mark Warner's speech. I was worried because news came out that he was going to be very "bipartisan" in his message. But while he was no pit bull, I think he did a great job explaining what the fuck the Democrats are about in general, which was something needed in this convention. His remark about science was brilliant:
But the night belonged to Hillary Rodham Clinton. She let me down—and her husband really pissed me off—with some of her campaigning remarks and tactics against Barack Obama, and I have been angered by the steady stream of leaked stories about how the Clintons are not 100% on board with Obama. But she knocked it out of the park:
I think she did her best to show unity with Obama. I have zero faith her husband will follow suit tonight...he just doesn't care. I think Hillary, while upset at her upset, genuinely cares about the Supreme Court and the direction of our country, while Bill is one of those politicians (like most) who is more concerned about "The Game." But I hope he proves me wrong and is funny and feisty tonight. His wife is gonna be a hard act to follow.
Meanwhile, as amazing as the night was, the very biased (he will wind up working for McCain one day, and already was approached about this in the past) AP writer Ron Fournier wrote a highly cynical piece about how Hillary united the party "if only for a night," etc. And the New York Post claimed Hillary's speech was "faint praise." It's galling to me that the press is considered so liberal when really, what they love is the underdog. That's why they liked Obama vs. Clinton, and that's why they like McCain vs. Obama.
