Give Me Tiiime...To Realize My Crime

Boy-George-boy-george-120102_1024_768

It's a shame that one of the most interesting '80s artists, one who is openly gay, is such a nasty embarrassment as a human being, but I have to say it appears Boy George is going to get what's coming to him. After his continual drug fuck-ups, his charges for imprisoning a hustler certainly rang true—his defense was completely unserious and almost mocking, joking that the handcuffs he used were no big deal. Now he's guilty and he's likely to serve prison time. I know it's harsh, but I for one will not miss him while he's gone.

Boyboergeguilty It's sad that gifted icons like him and George Michael are so troubled in their personal lives, but it's worse to ignore it and act like they're okay (Michael even once railed at an interloper who caught him cruising for sex in a drug-induced stupor that this was part of how the gay community is).

It makes me appreciate that the worst that can be said of my own personal favorite artist is that she lists toward pretentiousness, is occasionally uninspired in her work (or too directly inspired by too-obvious sources) and can't be counted on to smile and sign autographs if you bump into her at the airport.

Basically, comparing Boy George with Madonna is like comparing Raquel Welch with the back of a bus...

Could your being harsh (your word) about this have anything to do with the fact that George turned trashing Madonna into one of his favorite sports for the last decade or so? Whatever you think of his nasty mouth and bizarre personal life, he is obviously a very troubled person - even without the drugs (read his books) - and instead of being rude about his punishment why not hope that it teaches him a well-deserved serious lesson?

He is entitled to hate Madonna, you are entitled to hate him of course, but really there also needs to be some compassion. I agree that George deserves what he got, and I am hoping for a serious sentence not some slap on the wrist, but even with O.J. (on the same day) I felt a sadness to go with my thinking he got what he deserved.

All of that aside, I *will* miss him while he's gone 'cos he has never stopped making good music (some of it much better than most of what the non-investigative general public got to hear).

Oh, I'm sure that's part of it—note my reference to it in the final line. I feel sad about it, and bewildered. He seems to be a nasty person. I think Madonna has shown she is capable of being rude and occasionally ruthless, but bouts of nastiness seem to be few and far between. For George, it has seemed like it's all he's capable of. I mean, he handcuffed some guy in his house and beat him up out of spite. That's hardcore.

I remember in the days when I used to read avidly about George, someone remarked that even before he was famous he was known to be a "nasty piece of work". He has definitely had those "anger issues" (as its said) all throughout his career, obvious even in his lyrics which so many see as innocuous. I think this conviction has been a long time coming, the rumor mill says he has done this to many others through these last several years, if that's the case I am glad it finally caught up with him. His music is forever dear to my heart but I sure wish his personal life was not at such odds with it. But, I have always seen his make up as his armor and something for him to hide behind, both from himself and reality.

With Madonna, I think any rudeness she is known for is a result of how exhausting it is to be hounded all the time, despite how hard she worked for that icon status the reality of it has to be taxing. I can criticize Madonna till the moon turns green, but there is still at least a decade where for me she was the coolest woman on the planet. My key disappointment with her is the plastic surgery, I just remain stunned that someone with such endless chutzpah and pluck could ever have her confidence be so shaken. But, that's me. She still reigns and likely will for decades to come.

Thanks for your blog, it is really cool. =)

madonna is a rude cow, as georege says, he hasnt found anyone who ever worked for her that has anything nice to say about her...as for george and his sentencing, he's a drug addict, he needs to be sent to a clini.
