I was more than aware of the fact that Lady GaGa is a Warholian character, and had seen images here and there of her before, but this early-years video (it's only three years old!) of her at The Bitter End (hat tip to Perez) is astonishing to me. She's completely unrecognizable physically and also stylistically. She's got talent here, but this would be something I'd watch and shrug and forget, so her new incarnation was definitely a stroke of genius. Or at least a stroke!
Nice. I can't believe some people put her in the same box with Heidi Montag. This might seem like run-of-the-mill live band to you, and yet I don't know many pop singers who would be able to pull this off. And the downtown NY club thing only makes the Madonna connection seem stronger...

Here is Katy Brand's recent take on La Gaga: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJKGtFNwxs8
I also like her "commentary" on all those 1990s bands reforming to "Cash In" (to the tune of Blur's "Country House"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIM5lfLbYhw

My bad. Katy Brand's "Cash In" VIDEO is a parody of "Country House" but the tune is actually "Parklife" (sort of).

Bad home dye job, but you gotta love this was only three years ago.

As well as the fact that Gaga started off as more of a pop/rock artist before switching to dance music.

I think on a sad day, a few decades from now, the same Madonna-MJ eulogizing scenario would be repeated, this time with Lady GaGa and Madonna. But of course, in that case I think it will be Madonna who'll still be around and willing to give a speech on TV.

Is this where she got her stroke of genius? This girl's been around since early 2007
