I'm going to be crossing my fingers all weekend for a surprise duet.

Now that's make more sense. I mean, how was she going to show up in person when she knows she can't get away with being the show-stealer of the night, as that place by all means is going to be swept away by the new holder of her crown, la Ga-Ga herself?

Cristian, that is a joke, right?

I do think GaGa could easily overshadow Janet's tribute and Madonna's intro. I just was excited to see Madonna and GaGa in a pic together...but if it's taped, wahhh.

Lame. Smells like the Britney pre-taped thing from last year, but worse.

Well either she'll come in at the beginning of the show for a speech about how MJ was such an amazing artist because he brought "the light" to the world (and then introduce Janet) or she'll perform with Janet herself.
Just think, a version of Scream between Madonna and Janet, that would be historic!
And about Gaga, I'm sure she'll do something to become the biggest headline on next day's papers, and again it will all sound forced and desperate for atention. What she has against her is that the VMA's this year will be all about Michael Jackson...

I gotta say, there's no way in HELL Janet and Madonna are performing together. Pre-taping the introduction would totally suck the fun out of it. I'm not sure that GaGa could overshadow Janet AND Madonna if Madonna was there live.

If Madonna & Janet knocked one out of the park with a FIERCE performance, Lady GaGa would EASILY be forgotten. Of course, that's IF they did. Which of course won't happen. But wouldn't it be something if they did?

i would only want a madonna/janet performance if madonna would do real choreography, instead of the yoga-inspired moves she's been throwing at us for 10 years now.
that said, no way are they going to perform together. an intro will be nice and exciting, i think...

Let the 'free market' reign!
If GaGa overshadows Madonna, then she brought it upon herself, for all the derivative stuff she's been doing lately.
Also, I don't think GaGa does thinks just for the sake of attention --at least not to a higher degree than Madonna did herself back in the beginning. Before she was kissing Black Jesus or making antiwar statements, she started out crawling on stage in a wedding dress. I'm all for people stealing the show (it's a show, it's performance, it's supposed to be contrived!) as long as the theft involves the slightest amount of creativity and talent, and not absence-of as Britney and Heidi have done it in the past.

Nobody could overshadow Madonna at the VMA's - and that's why I like Lady Gaga so much, because she wouldn't try.
Those girls (including Janet) don't come anywhere close to having the influence and longevity (not to mention sheer number of hits) that Madonna has.
Madonna is humble, though, and never is afraid to share the spotlight with or steal the thunder from her "competition", even if they're completely out of her league like Britney SPears.
