Now THAT'S Italians Do It Better!
Madonna's new shots for Dolce & Gabbana (how many designers can she plug? Just get it over with and endorse The Fancy Clothes Advisory Board!) are really interesting—to me, the exact opposite of her last PhotoShop till ya drop campaign with Louis V. They're definitely going for Anna Magnani (look her up, young'uns!).
The above image is Magnani's head on Madonna's body—gotcha! UPDATE: Apparently, less Magnani and more Monica Vitti:
I can see it, of course, but I still prefer Magnani.

She looks lovely in those pics. Womanly.
Yes, Vitti. Not remotely like Magnani, but thanks for the pics, not often you see an Anna Magnani posting anywhere and actually M would be good in a remake of the Honourable Angelina, that story would suit her. Now when are you going to put her head on Dietrich or vise-versa?

She looks fantastic! I love the photo where she's washing the dishes. Something about her eyebrows always gets me. In the first photo, they photoshopped the HELL out of her hands.

Nonplussed: It's not that she resembles Magnani, it's the vibe that is clearly Magnani to me. But as for putting Marlene's head on Madonna's body, Madonna's already done that.

Madge looks more like Debbie Harry, than either Anna or Monica -- whose feet she is not worthy to kiss.

omg, Matthew! Thank you for saying that! As soon as I saw the photos of Madonna from A SINGLE MAN premiere, I instantly thought she looked like Marlene Dietrich. So much, that it looks as if she's deliberately trying to look like her. What with the cheeks and all. Very strange.

These are hot.
I love how she does the open mouth thing to conceal the cheek work, lol. Yeah, and Photoshop. But god love 'er she looks smashing.
This is Madonna art+commerce work done right. As good as the Testino-shot Versace campaign from 1995.

These intriguing pictures are truly up there with the best of Madonna's photo shoots. When I saw them in the press yesterday, I couldn't stop looking at them, and I haven't felt like that about Madonna photos for quite some time; they make you want to stare at her to try and figure out who she really is.
I hope the rest of the D&G campaign is up to this very high standard.
