Will you give her all your love?
Independent of the news over at MadonnaTribe and Madonnarama (both which have some more deets than I could confirm, including Madonnarama naming the single "Give Me All Your Love," a reverse Stacey Q!), I can confirm the following about the work-in-progress recording of Madonna's next, as-yet-untitled, studio album:
*** The overall sound is "pop/dance."
*** Madonna has recorded a ballad that will live on the W.E. soundtrack. (Speaking of that movie, there is a screening of the re-cut version in Manhattan momentarily.)
*** The lead single features Nicki Minaj and MIA (how original—sorry, I'll stifle it and stay positive) and is like a "cheer". The three would perform it at the Superbowl, which is happening.
*** She's touring from the spring.
*** Solveig, Orbit and Benassi are the album's producers.
Not too thrilled about Minaj nor MIA. Esp BOTH on the first single. I hope William Orbit is able to add a touch of class to this because it's all feeling very Euro trash Dance w/ lame ass featured guests. I will wait until I hear of course, never underestimate Madonna is what I've been telling myself for the last hour. Lourdes must LOVE Nicki Minaj........

A "cheer" song? That makes me think if something like Britney's "Womanizer" or "3," neither of which I like in their radio versions exactly because they sound more like chants than songs. But perhaps Madonna is thinking, "If it worked for Brit ..." I do like the remix of "3" on Britney's new remix album because the melody is emphasized, and the clever lyrics are more intelligible. "3 is the charm/2 is not the same/I don't see the harm/So are you game?"

the only thing that worries me about this is the thought that the first single might sound like "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani or "Mickey" by Toni Basil... other than that i think we're on course to get a fantastic pop/dance album from madonna. again.
a few features isn't anything to get up in arms about, and really...the queen of POP needs to think about POP always if she wants to hold on to her crown: features, remixes, dance music... it's all the rage on the charts now. she'd be stupid not to incorporate some of that in her new music.

your obsession with madonna is getting tired, man

Please no.

OMG! Have you seen this one, Matthew?
She goes (or attempts to go) totally reality-housewifish with Lola here: (about time!)

M.I.A is the bomb. I couldn't care less for Minaj - but I know Madonna's daughter loves her and she is the most popular female rapper around right now, plus she is somewhat cool.
I got a feeling that, besides the presence of current "it" girl (Minaj), unlike 4 Minutes, this might be Madonna doing what she knows best: being edgy with her sound. Also, I don't think M.I.A would go on board for something tired.

No, no,no... please no Nicki Minaj... where are you good, 'ol ground-breaking, new-talent-minting Madonna?
But like joe said, I'll wait 'till I hear. After all, '4 minutes' was for many the standout track of HC.
And psyched about a new Madonna movie ballad! Not only they're always a sure bet, that could also mean Oscar hopes aren't all lost for her!
(BTW, WB should release a collection of her music for the big screen.)

Bossy: I think the kind of song you're talking about is not so much 'chant' as 'semi-rap', e.g. Ke$ha and Fergie. I'm with David in that it sounds more in the Hollaback/Mickey realm (or even -gasp!- something like 'oh-ma-roma-ma-ga- maybega-oh-la-la.)
Also (to paraphrase Mean Girls) stop trying to make Britney happen. ha.

Just for Marcel, I had to follow this with another Madonna post. C'mon, Marcel; as a nearly unpaid blogger, I have to post about what I love. Truth in advertising—I put as the description of my blog 6 years ago that it's men, Madonna, mouthing off & me. That won't change. Just skip the Madonna posts and be grateful—I could like Mariah Carey or still be into Dungeons & Dragons!

Aside from Orbit.. this sounds awful. Remember when Madonna was an innovator?

Personally, I'm 75% sold on Minaj, but could do without M.I.A.
Cheer/cheerleading makes me instantly think of Toni Basil, Avril Lavigne (Girlfriend) and almost every other Gwen Stefani song.
Regardless, I couldn't be more psyched!
ps...please don't ever do a post on Dungeons and Dragons. i don't think my poor heart could take it.

Didn't Christina Aguilera have both MIA and Nicki Minaj on the album of the decade, "Bionic?" (heavy sarcasm here).
Orbit and Solveig made me excited.
MIA, Minaj, and Benassi worries me.

If Solveig did produce the first single, there is a good chance its going to sound very similar to this:

His production style is stompy percussion, sing-song vocal shouts, very cheerleader-esque. But Madonna could work wonders with him........

I love your Madonna obsession. It feeds my own. A lot of us started coming here for that. Keep it coming, Matthew. And everything else too. Thank you :)

@Joe: I hope it sounds like "Hello," that and "Bulletproof" are among the best pop-dance songs EVUH.
Posted by: Matthew Rettenmund | October 28, 2011 at 11:55 AM
@Matt: I like "Hello" a lot too and I think Solveig could really pull one out of the bag with Madonna behind him. Here's hoping!
Those snippets that were played outside her house sounded quite good from what I could hear so I'm holding out hope that it's not some crap, cheap Dance record. I think Oribits involvement could be a saving grace.........Also, the second snippet from out the window sounded very, very Solveig to me. And it sounded awesome.

Wait - you were into Dungeons & Dragons?

People really need to calm down and not judge based on a few tidbits.
What's going on here...is this the Vatican and Madonna's Blonde Ambition Tour? See her show/hear her album before you judge.
Plus...from what I've heard from some in the know people, the sound is very, very fresh. Dripping dance beats and wonderful production. Not a Hard Candy II at all.
The Superbowl performance will also be heavily choreographed - returning Madonna to her dance roots.

I'm concerned about the addition of Nicki Minaj and MIA. The former isn't exactly … underexposed at the moment. I'm really hoping this isn't "4 Minutes II."
Whatever happened to the rumors of Beth Ditto working with Madonna? Maybe she's just writing songs for the album?
