The great Maurice Sendak, an uncompromising out artist, has passed away at 83. His Where the Wild Things Are was an indelible part of the childhoods of countless people around my age and younger. I was also absolutely mesmerized by Pierre ("I don't care!") Chicken Soup with Rice and In the Night Kitchen. Have always found him fascinating and am so saddened by his passing.
"Fuck them is what I say. I hate those e-books. They cannot be the future. They may well be. I will be dead. I won't give a shit."
For a bittersweet personal remembrance of Sendak, please read Chexy's account of being his assistant for two years in the '90s.
