Tom Smith, Republican candidate for the Senate in Pennsylvania, just one-upped Todd Akin, Republican candidate for the Senate in Missouri, by likening his daughter having premarital sex to rape.

"...put yourself in a father's situation, yes. It is similar."

No. It is not.

This is a person who wants to become a member of the highest law-making body in the U.S. Progressives and others with common sense have to stay vigilant against these kooks, and Paul Ryan and (if it gets him anywhere) Mitt Romney are in their ranks.

The problem is that most voters just don't think too deeply about a lot of the ideology of either party and just vote for who they kinda like or who they think will help their pocketbooks. There's no reason to believe Republicans are good for the economy, Ryan's a robot and Romney fires and outsources and collects money as hobbies, so it shouldn't be as close as it is. But it is.
