Do you "get" the Spice Girls? If so or if not, please comment along with your age. I'm just curious.

I'm 43 and I totally do not see the appeal. I don't like the nursery-rhyme catchiness of their songs, which always felt so generic to me. And they don't sing well. Come to think of it, they were kind of like the first Britney Spears to me, in that they were embraced by people just for being so "great" without any talent to back them up. I mean, I love a lot of crappy stuff and would fawn over a lot of silly artists, but I wouldn't say they were actually GREAT (like Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna), just that I love them.

But then, I was launching a magazine right when they were hot, so I only ever saw them as artists to write about and so saw them from a distance.

I do understand nostalgia, so if they were hot when you were 20 on down, I get that. But I was reading tweets about what pop pros they are, how they rule forever, etc.

Still...there's no denying they were the #1 draw to the Olympics closing ceremonies—by far. The Who who?

I wonder if Elton John will excoriate them and his butt buddy George Michael for lip-synching? He's oh-so-very-against that. But weak performance or not, I'm just glad George Michael is alive.
