A remarkably (even the judge pointed it out) remorseless Dharun Ravi received just 30 days in jail after being found guilty in the Tyler Clementi case. I agree he shouldn't be in jail for a decade, but Jesus—30 days? It's like he forgot a few parking tickets.

Wonder if those LGBT leaders who advocated leniency had total leniency in mind?

Gee, thanks, Newsweek and Andrew Sullivan—I'm sure this really helps break stereotypes. Gay-friendly = gay. I realize they're going for a take on the Clinton piece from years ago, but still—not helpful.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but...an interesting interview with Meghan McCain by Rachel Maddow last night. McCain's getting scorched for coming out and saying what many in the Republican establishment are saying behind-the-scenes, namely that Christine O'Donnell is a "nutjob."

But what interests me is that she went on to talk a bit about President Obama and Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I give McCain credit for openly—and, clearly, sincerely—disagreeing with and being hurt by her father's homophobic stance on DADT (and all other gay issues). In the past, I've been unimpressed with her for focusing on what Obama hasn't done when her father—and her party—is actively, aggressively working against gay issues. But she doesn't harp on that here, instead saying politicians should be held responsible for their failings but admitting she really has no answers as to how. (She doesn't advocate not voting for them again, protesting or other measures suggested by Maddow.)

Also interesting is that Ms. McCain seems to think that Obama has been given a free pass for his gay-rights disappointments. I'm glad Maddow pointed out to her that many in the gay community have given him no such free pass (choice comment at Joe.My.God. yesterday: "Obama can't tell his black ass from his white elbow," and it goes downhill from there on a daily basis in the comments section), but I think the central question remains: What do we do about it?

I don't think there are easy answers. I know AmericaBlog and others have advocated not to give the Democrats money. Some have argued that they'd never vote for Obama again or that they wouldn't vote for any Democrats, or that they wouldn't vote at all. Dan Choi's sincerely, passionately applied tactic is to embarrass the president by turning up the heat via civil disobedience and high-profile demonstrations; these things have worked in the past in other areas.

I'm not attracted to any of these remedies, but like Meghan McCain—and unlike those who use the word "Obamabots" in every other sentence—I don't have all the answers and don't pretend to.

It's incredible when a simple memoir engenders so much fruitful debunking by the media. Here, 18 of her top lies (just the top ones) from Going Rogue are laundry-listed. Andrew Sullivan will be pleased.

I sure like DailyKos and I sure like feminism, but I sure think Katha Pollitt—quoted there appreciatively by a diarist and of whom I have, I'm ashamed to admit as a well-read person, never heard—sure sounds like a complete horsepill.

Her comments against pro-lifers are a delight, but she goes on to imply that men shouldn't really get to speak on the subject of abortion. At best, she's angry that too many males were used as talking heads in the aftermath of the Tiller assassination.

Worse, she then attacks Andrew Sullivan (about who I myself am ambivalent) for daring to speak on the topic due to his barebacking scandal. Now, I don't think highly of barebacking fetishists. That's pretty much established if you've read my blog at all. But I don't see how one relates to the other. And just to borrow a tried-and-true pro-choice motto for the sake of making a point, isn't it in theory his body?

Michael Musto is not your girl.

Worst of all, she attacks Village Voice columnist and pop-culture guru Michael Musto as a "misogynist" for making fun of Carrie Prejean's breast implants (and other easy targets, double-entendre intended).

Is it a coincidence that both are gay? Is that why they really have no clue about "women's reproductive lives"?

Well fuck you, Katha Pollitt—the day straight people are disallowed for making decisions about gay ons is the day we'll talk about gay men being disallowed to have opinions on women's issues.

Michael told me, "I love a bigot who parades around in fake breasts and did a tittie spread but feels she can justifiably hold up the Bible as proof that gays are bad people. I've used humor to point out her hypocrisies (as well as those of the pageant itself) and as a result was called misogynistic and intolerant by the likes of Bill 'Loofa' O'Reilly and his dwindling followers. That's like the pot calling the kettle intolerant! No, it's like Susan Boyle telling people they should wax their eyebrows! I am deeply amused."

When liberals and conservatives both think you're a misogynist, the only thing you are for sure is a gay man.
