I am at a loss for words at Dreamgirls director Bill Condon's nonsensical quote regarding the passage of Prop 8 and a $1,000 donation made for that cause by Richard Raddon, the L.A. Film Festival's director:
Wait, I'm not at a loss for words—Bill, you're making excuses and it's illogical. Nobody is arguing that religious types don't have the right to be against gay people, but does using one's religion really justify that position? It's easy enough to prove that the disdain for homosexuality some Christians read into their religion is already wildly overstated, and there is nothing in the Bible about gay marriage. But regardless, your argument seems to imply that anything done in the name of religion can not be classified, in and of itself, as bigotry.
You'd be better off arguing that it's wrong to punish the festival for the repugnant personal beliefs of its director (same goes for the Cinemark boycott). That at least is a position that makes sense.
Try again.
