The release of "amoral" gumshoe Fred Otash's files—he bugged Rock Hudson denying to his wife Phyllis Gates that he'd ever "picked up boys from the streets" and listened in on JFK having sex with Marilyn—is fascinating. Who knew his old files still existed, or that they'd be so rich with hush-hush Hollywood morsels?
Otash also claimed he was surveilling Monroe the day she died, describing a violent three-way argument between the doomed star, Bobby Kenney and Peter Lawford, the latter of whom allegely muffled Monroe's hysteria with a pillow over the face.
Explosive stuff.
Drag fabulosa Linda Simpson is too young to remember when her alter ego, Les Simpson, took these wonderful photos that are a part of NYC, c. 1985, a show going up at ClampArt Gallery (521-531 W. 25th St., between 10th/11th Aves.), so she's probably just as amazed as we are by the early AIDS activism and '80s fashions he captured.
(The final three images in the above gallery are from the after-party of 1982's Night of 100 Stars, and include shots of Elizabeth Taylor, Linda Evans and Liza Minnelli.)
The show also features: Amy Arbus, Catherine McGann, Nan Goldin, Larry Clark, and other familiar names.
I'll be stopping by the show this Saturday to eyeball this work in the flesh. I expect it will be like stepping into a time machine. Thirty years really does fly by when you're having fun.

Ben Model, a leading silent film pianist, has a truly intriguing effort under way called Accidentally Preserved. Using home-use 16MM prints of previously lost silent films and silent shorts (described as "the Netflix of the Art Deco era"), he's been creating easy-to-access versions of these gems. The films are called "accidentally preserved" because while their original prints were, in fact, not preserved at all, their 16MM home-use versions, which were sold off to fans and film societies when the practice ended in the '40s, have survived.
Check out the catalogue. He's got lots up on YouTube, too.
