Arrived late to Big Ang's launch party for her book Bigger is Better: Real-Life Wisdom from the No-Drama Mama (Gallery, $21.99) only to discover I'd missed a chance for a one-on-one with the reality sensation. The book looks like a breezy read. On the page I flipped to first was the header, "A Friend Today Could Be an Enemy Tomorrow."

Ang was holed up at the new Cutting Room on E. 32nd, surrounded by a, uh, mob of well-wishers. Everyone was grabbing her for photos. When it was my turn, she said no because she was heading out to smoke. Not being an avid Big Ang watcher, I miscalculated the near-total devotion she inspires in others, so I said something like, "Fuck her if she can't wait for me," only half-seriously. Two guys who were going to help me get the photo looked like I had just wished Kylie Minogue dead. Mea culpa! Fabulous publicist (aka fabulist) Chip Duckett introduced us and she graciously posed for the above shot between puffs.

Ran into some drunken friends, one of whom was sober enough to take the lovely photos, the other of which was feeling no pain so had no problem loudly saying things of the crowd like, "These people aren't putting it on...they're really like this!" His buddy—tall, strapping, bearded, in plaid—overheard an attendee saying, "Who the fuck is that? He looks like a lumberjack!"

But the best overheard moment was—imagine this shouted from a waiting white SUV—"Angie, get in the cahhhh, I'm stahhhhvin'!"

Mitt Romney has sunk to a new low, cracking a birther joke about President Obama while at a Michigan rally:

"No on has ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."

Hard to overlook the racial and cultural overtones, painting Barack Obama as a foreigner, an other. If Mitt Romney deserves to lose for no other reason, he deserves to lose for his blatant flirtation with birtherism.

Why is it considered so unfair to go after Mitt Romney for the rather strange beliefs involved in Mormonism, and why is Mitt so pissy over being asked about his taxes, but it's okay to continually (his son's done it, his favorite entertainer Donald Trump's made a cottage industry of it) hint that President Obama is a liar who was born in another country?

Via Joe.My.God.: When a lesbian mom politely informed the owners of New Jersey bed and breakfast Camp Whitebriar that she would not patronize their business anymore after seeing a sign out front supporting Chick-Fil-A and expressing disapproval of same-sex marriage, the reply she received was beyond the pale.

The mom has created a page asking for an apology but...who cares about an apology? You can't apologize for something you feel at the DNA level, as this woman clearly does. Just shocking that people think this way, and all the more annoying considering how many anti-equality folks claim there is no "hate" behind their adherence to alleged Biblical principles.

While Mitt Romney makes his big push as an international statesman, one of his advisors told The Daily Telegraph that Romney would make a better partner with the UK because President Obama's father was from Africa and "we are a part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage." If you don't find that racist, it would probably take a burning cross to rile your sense of it. And even then you might question things like the heat index or the possibility of children playing a prank.
