Dr. Joyce Brothers, famous as a quiz-show winner, a shrink and, later, as a sort of intentionally self-parodying, famous-for-being-famous celebrity, has died at 85. She used to pop up on just about every TV show. They say Ted McGinley's appearance sealed a show's fate, but Dr. Brothers was always able to squeeze in one last cameo before it went off the air.

Dr. Brothers was relatively open regarding gay issues, which matters more in that she was a psychiatric specialist and not just a TV personality. Unfortunately, without much digging, I found the above repulsive column from just 28 years ago. By 2003, she seemed much more open-minded. (See after the jump for pro-gay colums from 1976 and 1983.)

But hey, she's dead, so let's just remember her for Happy Days blooper, which demonstrates more than anything else that she may've had gay on the brain:

Sad day for soap fans as The Young and the Restless star Jeanne Cooper has died at 84. I will always remember when both she and her character had a facelift, documented by the show, in 1984.

I will also always remember meeting and chatting with her at a very recent Hollywood Show, where she was selling her memoir. Her chemistry with tablemate and former co-star Barbara Hale, 90, was adorable, and Jeanne pressed her face right up against mine for our photo.

Charming lady, indomitable, unique...she'll be missed by many, I'm sure.

Legendary DJ Peter Rauhofer, a Grammy winner under the moniker Club 69, has died at the age of 48. According to a heartfelt notice on his Facebook page posted by Angelo Russo, Rauhofer died after a battle with brain cancer:

Deanna Durbin (pictured above at age 60), one of the biggest stars of the '30s and '40s, has died at age 91, according to her son.

Durbin was an immensely popular child and teen actress, a contemporary of Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor who at one point was the second highest paid actress in the country.

She retired before the age of 30 and spent the rest of her long life almost completely out of the public eye. I'm not sure how frequently she signed autographs over the years, but I can guarantee you that many of the people who had any idea who she was assumed she had passed away long ago.

Her death was announced in a fan club newsletter; her son thanked her fans for respecting her long-cherished privacy.

Sad to arrive back from L.A. and have one of the first things I see be an obit for Chrissy Amphlett, the lead singer of the raunch 'n' roll group the Divinyls. Best known (by far) for their #4 U.S. hit "I Touch Myself," the second-best masturbation song after Cyndi Lauper's "She-Bop," the Divinyls are far more beloved by me for their 1985 hit "Pleasure and Pain." That song definitely should've been on my list of '80s hits that missed the Top 40.

Amphlett, just 53 years old, died after a battle with breast cancer, for which she was unable to receive radiation or chemo due to her multiple sclerosis.

Martin Richard, 8, one of three who died in Boston yesterday. His mother and sister have suffered major injuries. All three were there to watch his father cross the finish line. Terribly sad.

This, not that fake photo of a little girl running that's all over social media, is an image to take away from the awful events.

Besedka Johnson, a woman with no acting experience who was recruited to star in the indi film Starlet at the age of 85, has passed away due to complications from a bacterial infection. She was 87.
