Boy Culture Turns 6: My Favorite Posts Comments (13)

IMG_7536Prove it!

As of midnight last night, it was exactly six years since my first post. It's been a tough thing to keep up with a dayjob and outside activities, and just when I think I might walk away, a valuable connection or interesting opportunity or a kind word comes my way. Thank you all for reading me.

Here are my favorite 100+ posts out of nearly 11,000. Please take some time to read (or re-read!) a couple and tweet or Facebook any you like.

xoxo Matt

Finding Art Between Their Legs Comments (1)

The new PREFmag (Mai-Juin 2010) has a hot homage (an hautemage?) to David Hurles ("Old Reliable"), the shutterbug whose sublimely sleazy work helped make prurient magazines potent reading material:

Portfolio
The tribute shots are by Bian Kaminski with art direction by Andrey T.:

The layout is incredibly timely in that I've heard John Waters and Dian Hanson are co-curating a major exhibit of Hurles's work—gay-for-pay drifters out on bail with remarkable wood—at the Marianne Boesky Gallery in NYC June 4—26:

The real Hurles, with Hanson (left) and Oriana Nazworthy in '09, is recovering from a stroke. It's great that he'll be able to enjoy knowing his work is being presented in a New York gallery:

PREFmag (Janvier—Février 2010) is good for several eye-popping shots, including the above glistening look at Edison Nascimento and the below illustration for a piece on Jitrois denim:

Maybe the best is this one by J Cassoni, illustrating "La Banalité du Male":

According to PREFmag (Novembre-Decembre 2009), Carsten Andersson is "the new Britney Spears of porn!" I'm not sure what that means, but there is more of it to consider after the jump...

DNA #110 featured Adam Phebus by Ronald N. Tan, whose ambition in life is "to be an amazing, well-respected, professional actor—preferably a leading man in incredible movies." Asked about his fantasies, he replies, "If I told you, you'd have to put your magazine in the adult section." This is not what Sir Laurence Olivier would have said:

PREFmag (Novembre—Décembre 2008) has this nostalgic editorial by Anthony Gayton, showing two prep-school "boys" engaged in rough-housing, gay-baiting and—as above—eventually...some quality time with Teddy and Jon-Erik Hexum:

Darryl Stephens—my pal and one of the stars of Boy Culture—joins DeMarco Majors in a pair of "Portraits Express" by Francois Rousseau in PREFMag (Novembre—Décembre 2008). The appearance was to help promote Noah's Arc: Jumping The Broom, the theatrical version of his much-missed LOGO show.

Didn't realize that movie had been released in October? I almost missed it myself—and yet it made over $500,000, coming close to matching the take of his much more hyped Another Gay Movie (over $600,000).

DeMarco is an out basketballer I've never heard of, but who—in shorts short—is someone I intend to research.
