The FBI has released, in a document dump, 128 pages of material from 1988 to 1992 pertaining to Whitney Houston. Along with voluminous fan letters (that quickly turned into a stalker's manifesto), the dump is most interesting for containing information that Houston was extorted for cash because of her personal life:

"Another series of documents details a blackmail plot against Houston, conducted by a woman who alleged that she had sensitive and embarrassing information about the singer's relationships and personal life.

"The woman's demands climbed from $100,000 to $250,000. Houston, who died in February 2012, admitted having discussed personal matters with the woman, and her father ultimately sent the woman a payment to buy her silence."

Living in the closet may be beneficial for one's career, but it certainly takes a personal—and, sometimes, a financial—toll.

The Whitney Houston wax figures are pretty spot-on. So weird that her very casual tracksuit from when she sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" qualifies as one of her most iconic looks.

I have to agree with my pal Christopher: Cissy Houston is a huge part of why Whitney Houston isn't here today. In this interview with Oprah, Houston unflinchingly states she would NOT have liked it if Whitney were a lesbian and would not have condoned it. With that kind of parental pressure on top of her career demands, it's no surprise that Whitney self-destructed (even though many people endure the same without folding). Pathetic.
